Daniel Lee Hill, ThM, PhD
Assistant Professor of Christian Theology – Baylor University
Working in the HEAL Lab has expanded my understanding of grief and human connection. The team’s openness, precision, and care have refined how I think about loss—and how I approach collaboration itself.
Dr. Daniel Lee Hill is originally from Chicago’s south suburbs. He obtained his bachelor’s degree at Hampton University and his Th.M. at Dallas Theological Seminary. He later attended Wheaton College for his doctoral work, studying theological anthropology with special reference to the manner in which the church informs our understanding of ways of being human. His areas of interest include theological anthropology, death, dying, ecclesiology, and the church’s public witness. Dr. Hill has authored numerous articles and published Gathered on the Road to Zion (Pickwick, 2021). He recently completed a manuscript on abolitionary figures and the church’s public witness titled Bearing Witness. He is currently working on a manuscript that explores the manner in which doxology informs and shapes theological inquiry, as well as a monograph on theological accounts of race. Dr. Hill received the Emerging Public Intellectual Award in 2022 and delivered the 18th annual Frank Pack Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture Program at Pepperdine University.
Within the HEAL Lab, Dr. Hill’s participation has deepened his understanding of the challenges and opportunities surrounding care for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Collaborating with a highly skilled and hospitable team of researchers, he notes that their analytic precision and creativity have refined his own thinking in meaningful ways. His primary work in the lab focuses on the Mind, Body, Spirit Study conducted with Dr. Angie LeRoy investigating the manner in which afterlife beliefs influence pre-loss grief symptoms among caregivers.
