Former Research Assistant

My time in the HEAL Lab prepared me well for the logistical side of research… I gained valuable skills in project organization and learned how to design a research project from the ground up.

Brighton is pursuing a PhD in Interdisciplinary Genetics and Genomics at Texas A&M University. Her research explores the genetic influence on the bioavailability of Vitamin A in both mice and humans, with a current project titled “Establishing a Machine Learning–Based Hepatic Retinoid-Level Prediction Model for a Precision Nutrition Foundation.”

Brighton credits the HEAL Lab with preparing her for the logistical side of research in graduate school. She gained valuable skills in project organization and learned how to design studies from the ground up—experience that has been instrumental in planning the experimental design and data collection for her current work. Brighton also notes that the HEAL Lab helped her think critically about research questions from multiple angles and to brainstorm new directions. “The HEAL Lab was my first real introduction to research,” she reflects, “and I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.”
