Studying health across the lifespan
The North Florida HEAL Lab — short for HEalth Across the Lifespan — is based in Jacksonville, Florida and supported by the University of North Florida. Our research examines how people experience loss, from the death of a loved one to caring for someone whose essense is changing through progressive illness, such as dementia.
The lab is led by Dr. Angie LeRoy, the principal investigator (PI), who brings years of experience in social and health psychology research.

Writing to Heal
Writing to Heal is a mobile health intervention for spouses caring for a partner living with dementia. Designed as an expressive writing series, it guides caregivers through structured sessions and reflection. The mobile format makes it easier to access and fit into caregivers’ busy lives, ensuring support is available whenever and wherever it’s needed.
The series helps caregivers process complex emotions, potentially reduce stress and inflammation, and provides support through one of life’s most difficult journeys.
